Mike Johnson wants to continue as House speaker, despite the hurdles

Mike Johnson on Tuesday vowed to remain in his job as speaker past the 2024 election, defying a pair of hard-line conservatives who continue to seek his ouster, and attempting to retain his shaky grip on an unruly House.

“I intend to lead this conference in the future,” Johnson (R-La.) said Tuesday. “We have plans for the next Congress, and we’ve been outlining a lot of that. But right now it’s all hands on deck, all hands on the wheel and steering the ship upstate, so to speak. So I’m honored to be able to do that. I expect I’ll be doing that in the future, and am glad to have the support of President Trump.”
